GEOGRAPHICAL BACKGROUND
Part of the
Algaeuian Ridge
The "Allgäuer Hauptkamm" is part of the "Allgäuer" alps and contains the highest mountain points in this area. The main dirction runs from the sout-west to the north east. In the area of "Hohes LIcht" and the adjacent mountain points, we will find a permanat change between different expositions. In the relativity of their heigth, the natural dispositiois are very precipitous. Sunny and shady dispostions changes very often. A lot of small glaciers and snowfields are able to exist around the year in this relative low height.
Some mountain lakes ("Rappensee", "Eissee" and others) complete the view about the landscape.
The frontier of trees rises at the to the west exponated dispositions not over 1600 m h. a. s.), at the to the east exponated ones scarcely to 1300 m. h. a.s.l. . The regular tinber-line in the north alps is located by 2000 m. h.s.l.
The Matterhorn has two peaks, which are connected by a short small ridge between them. The peak on the Switzerland side is the higher one and marks the greatest height of the mountain. The Italians on the other side own a peak just one meter less high than the other one and the summit cross, too. mm-7.29

TOURISM AROUND
THE LICHT
Among all the major mountains of the Alps the Matterhorn was the last to be climbed. Since July, 14th , in 1865, when the first men reached the very summit of the Matterhorn, 400 alpinists lost their life while attempting to ascend the mountain. Nevertheless the Matterhorn is both the most climbed and still the most attractive mountain of the Alps.
